Iserbyt wins splendid spectacle in Flamanville
The sixth round of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup in Flamanville was full of excitement and thrills. The course challenged the riders with technical sections and fast descents, leading to a breathtaking battle for victory. Just like two years ago, it was Eli Iserbyt who took the victory.
Kevin Kuhn (Circus-Reuz-Technord) showed immediately from the start that he was up for the battle. The Swiss rider took off like a rocket while Nys (Baloise Trek Lions) and Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal) got off to poor starts. Laurens Sweeck (Crelan - Corendon) fared even worse. Ronhaar (Baloise Trek Lions) showed his class right from the start by shooting forward like a whirlwind. It quickly became clear that he was among the men to beat.
He built up a small lead while Iserbyt was battling his way forward. By the third lap, the Dutchman had a 10-second lead on Iserbyt, who had pulled away from the rest. Behind the Belgian rode the Baloise Trek Lions duo Joris Nieuwenhuis - Lars van der Haar. Ronhaar maintained his lead for several laps, but Iserbyt still had his sights set on a win. Entering the fifth lap, the Belgian caught up.
With two laps to go, Iserbyt himself went on the attack. For his part, Ronhaar did not give up and he fought back. The duo engaged in an intense battle, with Iserbyt eventually gaining the upper hand. Entering the sixth lap, he had amassed a 7-second lead. Behind him, Van der Haar managed to pass his team-mate Ronhaar to claim second place. With this victory, Iserbyt strengthened his lead in the general classification.
