Scheldeprijs finish in Schoten confirmed until 2031

Road  08/04/2025

On the eve of the 113th Scheldeprijs, the municipality of Schoten, the Scheldeprijs organising committee and Flanders Classics announce the extension of their current partnership - originally set to end in 2025 - for six more years. That means that the finish of the oldest Flemish Spring classic will be remaining in Schoten for the period 2026 through to 2031.

Schoten and the Scheldeprijs have long been closely linked in the cycling landscape. The 113th edition, taking place tomorrow, 9 April 2025, marks the end of the current contract. Even before the successors to Lorena Wiebes and Tim Merlier are known, the organisers have some news to share. From 2026 through to 2031, the Scheldeprijs organising committee and Flanders Classics will once again be joining forces with the municipality of Schoten.

Maarten De Veuster, mayor of Schoten: "The Scheldeprijs has been finishing in Schoten for nearly 100 years now, which makes it the longest-running partnership in Flanders. So we can proudly call ourselves the host town of the oldest Flemish cycling classic in the country. Fantastic, right? Combine that with the great atmosphere this race brings every year, and you’ll understand why this is such a special moment for Schoten."

Paul De Swaef, alderman for Sport: "The Scheldeprijs is not only a beautiful race with international appeal, but also a true folk festival and a highlight for our municipality. With the extension of the collaboration for the next six years, this cycling classic remains a fixture in Schoten – something we are particularly proud of and look forward to with great enthusiasm."

Cycling is a sport steeped in tradition, and the longstanding collaboration between the Scheldeprijs and the municipality of Schoten is a perfect example of that
Tomas Van Den Spiegel, CEO of Flanders Classics

Jack Vissers, chair of the Scheldeprijs organising committee: “We are very pleased to be able to share this news today. It underlines the excellent collaboration between our organisation, Flanders Classics, and the municipality of Schoten. One that is built to last. The 2026 edition of the Scheldeprijs will mark the 100th time that the race finishes in Schoten. We wish to express our gratitude to the municipality of Schoten for their continued trust in extending our long-standing collaboration, and we look forward eagerly to marking this unique milestone together.”

Tomas Van Den Spiegel, CEO of Flanders Classics: “Cycling is a sport steeped in tradition, and the longstanding collaboration between the Scheldeprijs and the municipality of Schoten is a perfect example of that. Year after year, we see how Schoten and its residents - along with visitors from elsewhere - turn the Scheldeprijs into one big celebration. It is with pride and gratitude that we are able to build on the long history of the Scheldeprijs - a race that feels at home in Schoten.”

For the 113th Scheldeprijs, on Wednesday, 9 April 2025, the men’s race will start in Terneuzen. For the women, the 5th edition of their race starts and finishes in Schoten. We will find out who succeeds Lorena Wiebes and Tim Merlier at around 14:45 and 17:15, respectively.
