Two out of two for Alvarado in Niel
Ceylin Alvarado encountered no resistance in the third round of the Telenet Superprestige. With a lead of just under a minute over Aniek van Alphen, she rode to her second victory in Niel. Annemarie Worst finished third.
After Marie Schreiber’s usual fast start, it was Ceylin Alvarado who was quickly racing at her fiercest. On a trail strewn with mud and water, it was everyone for themselves. A number of errors quickly created the necessary differences and the many shifts behind. There was only one rider who felt on top of her game on this course: Ceylin Alvarado.
After the first lap, she already had a 14-second lead over Annemarie Worst. Marie Schreiber followed, at that point, 23 seconds behind. Halfway round lap two, those gaps were already up to 39 seconds and 55 seconds respectively. In the chase behind, Manon Bakker followed in fourth place, Maghalie Rochette was fifth, Sanne Cant sixth and Inge van der Heijden seventh.
Ceylin Alvarado did not look back and rode a number of flawless passages to build up a lead of more than a minute on her closest pursuers. In the meantime, behind her, the battle for the other podium places had erupted. At that moment, no fewer than five riders were fighting for spots two and three.
In the last of the four laps, it was Aniek van Alphen who made a strong impression. She seemed to be relishing the mud and had timed her race well. Another mistake by Worst was the final straw for her. A slide on a slope was the moment for Van Alphen to pass Worst.
Ceylin Alvarado cruised to her second victory in this year’s Telenet Superprestige. Just like last year, she once again took the highest place on the podium in Niel. Aniek van Alphen took a handsome second place, followed by teammate Annemarie Worst in third spot.
