VRT and Flanders Classics extend cooperation until 2031

Road  21/07/2024

The renewed partnership includes eight races in the men's (Omloop het Nieuwsblad, Gent-Wevelgem, Dwars door Vlaanderen, Tour of Flanders, De Brabantse Pijl, Brussels Cycling Classic, Scheldeprijs and Ronde van Limburg) and three races in the women's (Omloop het Nieuwsblad, Gent-Wevelgem and Tour of Flanders). The contract runs from 2025 to 2031.

Frederik Delaplace (CEO VRT): ‘VRT has been showing cycling in a leading and innovative way for years. We are very happy to continue this tradition, together with Flanders Classics. VRT is also fully committed to cooperation in sport, in the interest of both Flemish cycling, both men and women, and the local media field. More than ever, we are going for quality coverage of one of Flanders' most popular sports.’

Tomas Van Den Spiegel (CEO Flanders Classics): ‘This new chapter in the high-quality cooperation between VRT and Flanders Classics shows how two leading actors within the cycling landscape continue to find each other. At Flanders Classics, we attach great importance to innovation, a role we have taken up in recent years in terms of sports, but certainly also in terms of media coverage. Given that innovation remains one of our absolute core values and the way we played that role in recent years together with VRT in terms of TV production in an international landscape, a new and long-term cooperation with Sporza is a logical choice.’

Karl Vannieuwkerke: ‘I am very happy that we can give not only the top Flemish races in the men's, but also the women's races the attention they deserve. This is nothing new for Sporza, and we know that cycling fans can enjoy this. When we decided in 2020, together with Flanders Classics, to programme the women's races of Gent-Wevelgem and the Tour of Flanders after the men's race, it gave a huge boost to women's cycling. Meanwhile, other organisers have followed our example. I am already looking forward to all these exciting races in spring 2025.’
