VRT and Flanders Classics prolong cooperation until 2031
The renewed collaboration covers 8 men’s races (Omloop het Nieuwsblad, Gent-Wevelgem, Dwars door Vlaanderen, Tour of Flanders, De Brabantse Pijl, Brussels Cycling Classic, Scheldeprijs and the Ronde van Limburg) and 3 women's races (Omloop het Nieuwsblad, Gent-Wevelgem and the Tour of Flanders). The contract runs from 2025 until 2031.
Frederik Delaplace (CEO VRT): "VRT has been showing cycling in a leading and innovative way for many years. We are very happy to continue that tradition, together with Flanders Classics. VRT is also fully committed to its collaboration in sport, in the interests of both Flemish cycling - the men's and the women's - and the local media field. More than ever, we are going for quality coverage of one of Flanders' most popular sports."
Tomas Van Den Spiegel (CEO Flanders Classics): "This new chapter in the quality collaboration between VRT and Flanders Classics shows how two leading actors within the cycling world continue to find each other. At Flanders Classics, we attach great importance to innovation, a role that we have taken up in recent years in terms of the sport, but certainly also in terms of media coverage. Given that innovation remains one of our absolute core values and the way in which we have played that role in recent years together with VRT with regard to TV production in an international landscape, a new and long-term collaboration with Sporza is a logical choice."
Karl Vannieuwkerke: "I am very happy that we can give not only the top Flemish men's races, but also the women's races the attention they deserve. This is not new for Sporza, and we know cycling fans can savour this. In 2020, when we decided together with Flanders Classics to programme the women's Gent-Wevelgem and Tour of Flanders races after the men's races, it gave a huge boost to women's cycling. In the meantime, other organisers have followed our lead. Already I am looking forward to all these exciting races in the spring of 2025."
